Each year, the technology industry gears up for the fight of the century. Namely, every year sees the clash of Apple and Samsung. In 2026, the war resumes with the release of the latest versions of the flagship smartphones – the iPhone 17 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Both devices boast the highest technological advancements in mobile computing. Equipped with state-of-the-art next-gen artificial intelligence, extremely hard titanium frames, and professional DSLR-level camera, these are among the priciest phones in history. Therefore, as you spend thousands of dollars on the smartphone, you better be certain you get your money’s worth.

Design and Construction Materials: Titanium is King

The era of glass and fragile aluminum frames comes to an end. For their flagship series, both manufacturers choose titanium as their construction material.

iPhone 17 Pro Design

Following their design philosophy, Apple produces a minimalistic, sleek-looking product. The 17 Pro is made out of Grade 5 titanium, which makes it lighter than previous steel versions while being equally durable. The biggest change is the shrinkage of the Dynamic Island; its face ID sensors are moved to under-display positioning. Now, there is only a hole for the front camera left.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Design

Samsung takes an industrial approach to its designs. It sports square-like corners and an utterly flat screen. This version is heavier and wider due to the additional room dedicated to the S-Pen stylus. On the rear camera set, the lenses can be clearly distinguished from one another.

Design Verdict

In the end, this boils down to personal preference. The iPhone 17 Pro is better in terms of ergonomics and lightness of the frame. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is, in fact, a powerhouse for those looking to use their device as a digital notepad.

2. Screen Technology: The Showdown of the Display
iPhone 17 Pro Screen

The iPhone 17 Pro is equipped with a Super Retina XDR OLED screen with a peak brightness of 2,500 nits. As a result, it is completely visible even in direct sunlight thanks to its adaptive 1Hz to 120Hz ProMotion feature.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Screen

Samsung’s Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen has a huge diagonal measuring 6.8 inches and featuring the QHD+ resolution. Moreover, Samsung screens come with an anti-reflective coating. Samsung screens are known for having excellent color saturation and being perfect for gaming and viewing HDR movies.

Screen Verdict

The verdict goes to Samsung. An anti-reflective screen and the giant, flat display make the Samsung’s smartphone the perfect tool for media consumption and gaming.

3. Hardware: Apple A19 Pro vs Qualcomm 8 Gen 5 Snapdragon
Apple A19 Pro Chip

For years, the A-series processors from Apple have been dominating the smartphone computing landscape. They feature exceptional single-core performance and an upgraded Neural Engine, which performs the local calculation of the Apple Intelligence functions, providing enhanced data protection.

Samsung Qualcomm 8 Gen 5 Snapdragon Chip

The latest Snapdragon, customized by Samsung, has managed to compete with the A19 in terms of multi-core performance and has a vapor-chamber cooling system for its graphical operations. Therefore, it can perform graphically intense games without overheating even after long periods of gameplay.

Performance Verdict

This category is tied. While the 17 Pro opens applications slightly faster, the Galaxy S26 Ultra performs longer periods of intense tasks without suffering from thermal throttling.

4. Cameras: Artificial Intelligence and Extreme Photography Capabilities
iPhone 17 Pro Cameras

iPhone’s camera setup is now standardized, featuring three camera modules with 48 megapixels in each (primary, ultrawide, and telephoto). As a result, your photos’ tone will always be consistent regardless of whether you shoot with the primary lens or an ultrawide. Moreover, the camera on this device remains the leader when it comes to video shooting because of its support for the ProRes recording and cinema mode.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Cameras

Samsung’s camera setup features a 200-megapixel camera module and two telephoto lenses (3x and 10x optical zoom). Thanks to its periscope 10x lens, it can take extremely detailed photos of distant objects. Additionally, this device has an innovative AI function for magical photo editing that lets you erase backgrounds and enlarge picture borders.

Camera Verdict

If you are looking for a phone that shoots videos in high quality and allows for the creation of natural portraits, then the iPhone 17 Pro is your thing. However, Samsung’s camera provides the necessary optics capabilities and enhanced photo editing experience via its AI tool.

5. Battery and Charging Speed
iPhone 17 Pro: one day of heavy usage, 30W charging speed
Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra: 5,000 mAh battery capacity, two days usage, 45W fast charging

Battery Verdict: Samsung wins. This device offers higher battery capacity and charging speeds, thus gaining the advantage.

6. Operating System Ecosystems: iOS 19 vs One UI 8.1
Apple iOS 19

Apple’s closed-source system does not allow you any other choice but to become an Apple loyalist. Everything in the ecosystem works flawlessly together; if you own any kind of Apple device, the ecosystem works magic. iOS is easy to use, extremely convenient, and reliable.

Samsung One UI 8.1/Android 16

Unlike the closed-source OS by Apple, Samsung’s interface offers almost unlimited customization. Picture-in-picture mode, split-screen application management, Samsung DeX that turns the phone into a desktop computer – the sky is the limit with Samsung’s interface. Moreover, it works just as seamlessly on Windows machines.

Ecosystem Verdict

Again, there is no winner in this case. While iOS is simply brilliant for working with Apple’s devices and is highly reliable and secure, One UI 8.1 offers much more freedom and flexibility for customization.

7. Price and Longevity

The cheapest variant of the iPhone 17 Pro costs about $1,099, whereas the base model of the Galaxy S26 Ultra costs $1,299. Fortunately, Samsung often conducts discounts in the form of trade-ins. Nevertheless, both manufacturers guarantee seven years of updates and security enhancements, making your device safe throughout the 2030s.

Final Verdict: Which Phone Should You Buy?
iPhone 17 Pro if: you are already part of the Apple ecosystem, prioritize video shooting, need an extremely secure and reliable device, and want the best resale value.
Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra if: you need an all-purpose productivity tool, enjoy personalization of the interface, require S-Pen and extreme zoom capabilities in your photographs.

In the end, whatever flagship you may choose, you are getting a powerful smartphone for years of flawless operation.
