Both of these smartphones showcase all of the latest advancements available in 2026 in terms of artificial intelligence, titanium builds, camera technology, and more. So if you are considering upgrading your flagship to either one of these two smartphones, here’s your guide to determining which of these devices offers the best bang for the buck.

Design: Titanium is King

Glass backs and aluminium frames are long gone – today, premium flagships are made entirely out of Grade 5 titanium that offers unprecedented durability, flexibility, and sleek looks.

iPhone 17 Pro Design

In 2026, Apple has once again made some interesting changes to their iPhone lineup. Starting off with the iPhone 17, the design language of the device got much more elegant and sleek. The iPhone 17 Pro comes equipped with an ultra-light titanium frame that makes it much easier to handle even during prolonged sessions. Speaking of which, the Dynamic Island of the smartphone got smaller this year due to Apple switching to under-display facial recognition sensors – all the smartphone features a tiny circular cutout for the front-facing camera. Lastly, the phone is much softer to touch with the edges that are rounded to perfection.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Design

Unlike Apple, Samsung chose to maintain a more brutalist design direction with its new Galaxy S26 Ultra flagship smartphone. It sports a completely square-shaped frame, as well as a completely flat display. Similar to Apple, the phone features a titanium frame, though it is considerably heavier and more durable. On the back, there are three individual camera lenses, each of them clearly separated from others.

Verdict: When it comes to the designs of these smartphones, it really depends on what you personally like better. If you are looking for a phone that is more lightweight, soft to touch, and generally disappears in the palm of your hands, the iPhone 17 Pro should be your choice. If, however, you want a huge phone that looks impressive, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is the device for you.

Display Technology Battle

Of course, when investing thousands of dollars in your smartphone, you want nothing but the best possible screen.

iPhone 17 Pro Screen

The iPhone 17 Pro comes equipped with Apple’s Super Retina XDR OLED screen technology. The screen has received a significant boost in terms of brightness, as in 2026 it reached a whopping peak of 2,500 nits which make the display absolutely legible during sunny weather. The ProMotion feature allows the screen to scale the refresh rate anywhere from 1 Hz up to 120 Hz for smoother scrolling and improved battery efficiency. Finally, just as always, the color reproduction offered by Apple is industry-leading.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Screen

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra comes with a very similar technology used in it – the Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen that was enhanced in 2026 in multiple ways. First off, the S26 Ultra has a massive display of 6.8 inches with an incredibly high QHD+ resolution. Second, the screen features an anti-reflective coating that helps minimize glare in sunlight. Finally, as always, Samsung’s phones boast vivid colors with their AMOLED screens which are perfect for watching films and gaming.

Verdict: In terms of the displays used in these phones, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra beats its competitor. It provides much clearer visuals, a higher resolution, and is less sensitive to glare during sunny weather conditions. Additionally, it is significantly larger in size and therefore offers more screen real estate.

AI-Based Cameras and Videography Capabilities

These days, the quality of your smartphone camera is dependent on its AI algorithms, not on the quality of its lenses themselves.

iPhone 17 Pro Cameras

As of 2026, the iPhone 17 Pro uses a triple 48-megapixel camera setup. All three lenses have equal colour calibration, meaning that you get absolutely identical results no matter what lens you use to take a shot. The iPhone remains unsurpassed in terms of videography capabilities, providing its users with the ability to shoot videos in ProRes format, as well as to use cinematographic mode with smooth tracking. Speaking of the photos, Apple prefers a naturalistic colour calibration with plenty of deep shadows.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Cameras

This year’s Samsung offers a very versatile camera array in the form of 200 megapixels main camera along with two dedicated telephoto lenses – a 3x and a 10x lenses, the latter of which allows you to take extremely detailed photos even from a great distance. As for colour calibration, Samsung likes using brighter and more saturated colours in their shots that make your photos pop and look amazing online. Moreover, the Galaxy series’ AI features let you automatically remove unwanted objects from the picture as well as edit it further to extend the borders.

Verdict: For professional videographers and photographers who enjoy using portrait mode, the iPhone remains the clear winner. For those looking for better zoom capabilities and AI-based photo manipulation features, the Samsung Galaxy is definitely the way to go.

Battery Life and Charging Speed

Finally, any flagship phone must be capable of lasting an entire day of usage without dying on you.

iPhone 17 Pro

In 2026, Apple relies mostly on the power efficiency of their A19 Pro chip rather than on a large battery to ensure that your phone lasts an entire day. As a result, the battery capacity of the device is quite modest at 3,900 mAh, yet Apple managed to keep the phone operational throughout the day with intensive usage. Sadly, it charges comparatively slowly with the maximum charging speed limited to 30W.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra

On the other hand, Samsung uses a large battery with the capacity of 5,000 mAh to ensure that the device lasts much longer in comparison with other phones. Not only does this allow the smartphone to provide up to two days worth of charge, but also charges much faster with 45W of power.

Verdict: The clear winner of this round goes to Samsung’s S26 Ultra flagship as it features a much larger battery and can charge much faster.

Ecosystem: iOS 19 vs One UI 8.1

When it comes to choosing a smartphone, software is often the primary decider for most people.

iOS 19 (Apple)

The iOS platform is famously considered a “walled garden” by many. While it restricts user freedom, Apple’s operating system provides you with an incredibly seamless experience in the ecosystem. If you own other devices manufactured by Apple, they will integrate flawlessly, with features like Airdrop and Universal Clipboard being especially useful. Overall, the iOS is intuitive, fast, secure, and easy to use.

One UI 8.1 / Android 16 (Samsung)

Speaking of Samsung, this company gives users almost complete control over their phone’s appearance. With One UI 8.1, you can freely customize your home screen to your preferences with a multitude of widgets, themes, and wallpapers. Moreover, you can run various apps side-by-side, use picture-in-picture mode, as well as connect your phone to a display and turn it into a mini-computer thanks to Samsung DeX feature. In addition, Galaxy smartphones offer great integration with Windows PCs.

Verdict: There is no clear victor in this category. Simply select the option that fits your needs better. If you prefer a walled-garden approach that provides a lot of convenience for its owner, go for the iPhone. Otherwise, choose Samsung if you like customization options.

Price and Longevity

Since both phones come in at over $1,000, longevity is another aspect that matters.

Price

In 2026, both smartphones are quite expensive – the base model of the iPhone 17 Pro costs $1,099 whereas Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra will cost you $1,299.

Longevity

In 2026, both Apple and Samsung pledged to continue supporting their devices for a minimum of seven years, thus ensuring their continued functionality and safety throughout the whole decade.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the gap between the two tech giants has never been this narrow before. Both of these devices are incredible products that justify their hefty prices.
